Twitter: Avg User has 126 Followers, Runs an App

Some new stats on Twitter straight from the source...

-the average user has 126 followers;

-only 20% of its traffic comes through the Twitter website; the other 80% (logically) comes from third-party programs on smartphones or computers

What's also interesting in this piece is how Twitter stores its data.

But if they're taking the mean average that means absolutely nothing, doesn't it? Ignore the whole power law distribution of it. 126 is probably far left on the curve. The median number is probably something closer to a dozen.

I think it was the recent hbs study that indicated that 10% of twitter users accounted for 90% of the traffic. You have to admire the old schoolers still pushing tweets through twitter.com and still accounting for 10% of the traffic! I love statistics...

Don't forget that sms could be a chunk of that 80%
