Late last year I was interviewed by The Social Media Examiner on the future of the medium. In this nine-minute interview we discuss: why you need to have a presence on all social networks where your customers are spending time, how to use mixed messages to tailor your stories to different venues, how to measure social media metrics, why the different vectors of reach, engagement and reputation lead to trust and why it’s important to understand people & understand business.
Here are two fresh interviews that might be of interest. The first covers blogging's place in a microblog world. The second captures the essence of my productivity system, how I work and the tools I use
Do you play Foursquare? I have to admit I didn't until recently. But Foursquare, which is a mobile social networking site, is growing rapidly. I base this by the number of friend requests I receive (here's my profile). Some like David Armano are wisely asking if it's for real or not. Time will tell. I had breakfast yesterday with Dennis Crowley, Foursquare's co-founder to learn a little bit more. Here's my brief video interview with Dennis.
Recently, PR Week Reporter Frank Washkuch stopped by. We chatted about the advantages and risks involved in companies blogging, lifecasting, and using other social media.
This five minute interview, filmed today at the Northwestern University campus in Chicago, features Mike Slaby, formerly Chief Technology Officer, Obama for America; Technology Director, Presidential Transition Team. We discuss what it was like to work on the Obama campaign, how the President is making the White House more web-centric and his current role as a technology advisor to several non-profits and as the Chief Technology Strategist for TomorrowVentures.
In this video I talk to co-founders Sachin Agarwal and Garry Tan about the vision, strategy and growth of Posterous (traffic is up 20-50% every month). We also discuss lifestreaming and some forthcoming news: an iPhone app and theming.
While in San Francisco I spent some time with MG Siegler, a writer for TechCrunch. In this video he tells us what a typical day is like, what trends he's watching (particularly real-time streams and search), how he works with PR professionals and how he got the nickname "Parislemon."
I spoke with Rubel a couple months ago when he was visiting San Francisco for the Ad:tech conference. We met at B Restaurant near Moscone Center and I interviewed him with my Flip camera.
Timestamps of the interview are on the PBS site if you want to drill down into a topic.
I took a quick trip uptown today to learn more about Tumblr and meet with their team. (I will have a video interview next week up with Tumblr's co-founder, David Karp.)
While I was there I shot this five-minute interview with Marco Arment, who developed Instapaper as a side project. (Follow him on Twitter @MarcoArment) If you haven't tried the fantastic Instapaper service, be sure to check it out. Instapaper, which works on many mobile devices, is really for active web readers. It makes it a snap to save articles for future reading. Though we don't have it on video, Marco showed me some of the forthcoming features in Instapaper 2.1 for the iPhone. The new version, which should be out in a few weeks, has stronger integration with Twitter and Tumblr.
